Whenever It’s the end of the year, most of us get ready to turn a new leaf as we step into a new year or buckle down on our efforts to improve ourselves. The end of every year often brings about a lot of closed doors and chapters in your life and you often look to a new year as a chance to do away with bad habits, eat healthier, be more productive and fulfill other promises we make to ourselves in the form of new year's resolutions.
We are still in the first few months of the year and it is a great time to reflect on the New Year's resolutions you made and wonder if you have been true to them by doing your best to achieve them. For a lot us having New Year's resolutions is like a custom you really never uphold past the first few days of the year and when you are barely a week into the new year you find yourself slipping into old habits and doing all the things we promised to give up or you will not have started taking steps to do more of the things you planned to get in to.
So if you are among those who find it hard to achieve your New Year's resolutions every year and you can not seem to decipher the reasons why even though you do your best to stick to them, you are never able to achieve them. You set extremely high goals
One of the main reasons why you tend to never achieve your New Year's resolutions is that you set extremely high goals that may not be very realistic and you expect to achieve them all in a short period of time. Being ambitious and reaching for the stars is not necessarily a bad thing, but it is important to set realistic goals that you know you are capable of fulfilling and build towards the one big thing you hope to achieve. If for example one of your New Year's resolutions is to purchase your very own home, it may be a bit unrealistic to expect to buy yourself a palatial mansion when you earn a modest salary or you have modest sources of income. However, if you pick a home that fits well within your means and start a savings plan that you can deposit some funds in periodically, you are most likely to achieve that new year resolution. This will help you to be more patient and steadily build towards your goal of owning a home instead of expecting to purchase one overnight. Being more realistic about your New Years resolutions makes them easier to achieve and as you hit these small milestones you will certainly be more motivated to achieve your other New Years resolutions.
You doubt yourself
So many of us lack the confidence to actually pull through with our new resolutions for a host of reasons and this causes you to never actually fulfill them. Sometimes you may have doubts about your ability to achieve your goals and these fears can cripple you before you even take the first steps towards achieving your New Year's resolutions. The fear of failure is something that everyone deals with but it is important to always believe in yourself, forget about the mistakes and failures you have made in the past and learn to move on. You are bound to slip up sometimes and take a few steps backward as you work towards your goals however having confidence in yourself and learning to forgive yourself is the key to staying focused on your achieving your goals. Remember that you need to keep trying to achieve your resolutions no matter how many times you may have failed and congratulated yourself and celebrate your wins and successes.
Lack of support
When you are trying something new, it takes a lot of mental strength to pull through with it, not just on your own but also from those around you. The type of energy that the people around you bring your home way can help determine whether you achieve your New Year's resolutions or not. You fail at your resolutions If you are surrounded by negative thoughts and energy. When the people around you or your environment does not encourage you to push towards your goals then you get discouraged easily and give up faster. For instance, if one of your resolutions is to lose weight and you have no support from your friends or family then it will be doubly difficult to shed the pounds. If they do not encourage you to hit the gym whenever you miss a session or continue to tempt you by eating unhealthy food around you then you will definitely fail at achieving that goal of losing weight. You should surround yourself with positive people who love and support your goals and do their best to help you achieve them. You can also reach out to support groups in your communities or on social media as listening to the experiences of others can help you stay strong, you will also feel more accountable and more in tune with achieving your New Year's resolutions.
Achieving the new year’s resolutions you have set to help make yourself a better person or get more stuff done in your life can be difficult with only about 10% of people actually sticking to achieving their resolutions. There are a lot of distractions that deter us along the way but you should remember that failing at something is not necessarily the end of it. There are no laws against picking up from where you failed and applying new methods until you reach your goals. Identifying the reasons why you never achieve your New Year's resolutions is the first step and when you correctly identify the problem you can now work on taking active steps to correct them.
